The Founders

These pictures are from the 1923 Ontario Baseball Amateur Association (now OBA) Constitution. The OBAA was formed in 1918 and succeeded the Ontario Baseball Commission, which had been established by the Amateur Atheltic Union of Canada, Ontario Branch, in 1913 to govern amateur baseball in the province.

William J (Bill) Smith was the principal founder of Toronto Amateur Baseball Association (now TBA) and the first president of OBAA.

Arthur Joseph (Joe) Walsh (1884-1941) was the first secretary-treasurer of both TBAA and OBAA. He was also President of OBA in 1936-1937.

The AAU of C governed amateur sport in the country until 1970.
